H. Lester Keener
May 28, 1920 - March 7, 2013
H. Lester Keener, 92, formerly of Kirkwood, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Fairmount Homes. Born in West Lampeter Twp., he was a son of the late Harry M. and Emma (Kreider) Keener. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary (Dagen) Keener.
Mr. Keener farmed in his early years and went on to retire from Herr Foods, Inc. Lester was active in voluntary service. He spent time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in John’s Island, South Carolina and was also active in serving at Black Rock Retreat, Camp Andrews, and the Solanco Fair. He was a member Mount Vernon Mennonite Church and more recently the Village Chapel in Vogansville.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Keener is survived by five children: Mary Lois, wife of Lloyd Kreider of Kirkwood; Elizabeth “Liz”, wife of Robert Esbenshade of New Holland; Doris, wife of Raymond Lefever of Lancaster; Twila, wife of Robert Mast of Lancaster; and Mervin, husband of Nadine Keener of Peach Bottom. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Lester was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Memorial Services will take place at Mount Vernon Mennonite Church, 1 Lighthouse Dr. Kirkwood, PA on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. with Pastors Vernon Myers and Jeff Horst officiating. The family will receive friends for light refreshments immediately following the service. Traditional interment will be private in the Mechanic Grove Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to the Fairmount Homes Sharing Fund, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, PA 17522.
